When my boys were little it was so hard to get them to eat any fruits or to make sure they were eating healthy. Most kids love meatballs or any type of ground meat in the form of a ball. After many attempts I figured out how to make eggless meatballs.
I would recommend using a plain/regular applesauce unless you want a cinnamon tasting meatball. If you are using ground turkey, that might not be bad if you are making a sweet meatball.
Most kids are very picky eaters, or at least mine were when they were small, so finding these little hacks helped me make sure they were eating healthy.
This recipe will make the meatballs really tender and it will also give your kids another serving of fruits. The applesauce will replace the eggs. 1/4th cup of plain applesauce will replace 1 egg.
This is how you make eggless meatballs
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef, room temperature (you can use any ground meat)
- ½ cup of Italian bread crumbs (or a gluten free alternative)
- ¼ cup of applesauce
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons of avocado oil
- ½ cup of parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper
Put the meat, bread crumbs, applesauce, garlic, avocado oil, cheese, and salt & pepper in a large bowl. Mix meat and form balls about 1/2 inch in size. This makes it easier for those little fingers to pick the balls up to eat them.
Place on a cookie sheet that you have sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Place in oven for 25-30 minutes and if you like a more crispy meatball cook for 30-35 minutes. Serve with your favorite marinara sauce for spaghetti or some meatball subs.
I hope you enjoy this healthy version of meatballs that you can serve your kids.
