Raw almonds; it’s a new love in my life people! I just simply can’t get enough of them, and I eat around a cup every day right now. Love being able to just grab a handful and munch on them while I am on the computer or watching TV – its better then eating chips and what not. I also love adding chopped raw almonds into salads, or add them into my healthy shakes. Oh, I could just go on and on. And the best thing about this new love is that they are really good for you. I hope you love this how-to for Homemade Almond Milk.
I am a huge milk girl – I am the daughter of a dad who would stand in front of the fridge and chug the milk FROM the gallon! So, I didn’t know if I could convert to non-dairy milk.
So, I went to search for some almond milk but I wasn’t impressed with anything that I found. The ingredients were what scared me away! Why does there have to be so many unnecessary ingredients in the things we eat and drink?
This is homemade fresh raw almond milk! I did it I was able to make something that was creamy, frothy, healthy, and has no additives or preservatives like other nut milks from the store have. It is fantastic to drink, put it on cereals, use in smoothies and shakes. I just can’t get enough of it.
How To Make Homemade Almond Milk
Soak the almonds over night. I also added in some cinnamon sticks the other day during this step and it gave the milk great flavor.
Add water and pre-soaked almonds to your blender, I love my Ninja Mega Kitchen System!
Strain using a cheesecloth or fine strainer.
Add the strained almond meal back into the blender, add the rest of the water and blend.
Store in the fridge for up to 1 week in a pitcher.
After the final strain, this is what you are left with. It would be such a waste to just throw it away — Right? So I put mine in a bag and have it in the fridge. I will be adding it in to my shakes, green smoothies, and overnight chia seed pudding.
I used my new Ninja Blender (I upgraded from the older version) but any other blender will do just fine.
What other things can you add into this to make it your own and eliminate any store bought products? I have made this list for you:
- Chocolate Almond Milk just add in a couple of tablespoons of raw cocoa powder, 1 tsp. vanilla extract.
- Cinnamon Almond Milk – add in 1 tsp. of ground cinnamon, 1 tsp. vanilla extract.
- Strawberry Almond Milk – add in the desired amount of strawberries with 1 tsp. vanilla extract.
- Green Almond Milk – Add in the desired green veggies (spinach, kale, cucumber and celery juice) with you raw almond milk. I also would make this separately as a daily drink.
